Quinoa which will reach up to 1.50m to 2m high in full bloom. Before, it is very difficult to distinguish it from the goosefoot of our gardens.
A food plant, quinoa is one of the species cultivated ancestrally in the Andes. This variety bears large green panicles that turn red during the maturation of the seeds in August/September. Its water requirements are moderate and the ideal temperature is 12 to 20 °C during its growth. It tolerates drought relatively well. The seeds are covered by saponin, rinse thoroughly with water to remove its bitter taste.
Sowing in March-April, on aerated, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter.
Flowering in July and harvesting the seeds in August/September, when the stems turn purple and the grains begin to detach from the inflorescences. Cut the inflorescences and put them to dry before beating them over a bucket.
Reproducible seeds harvested exclusively in the Pot'à'Jo garden, a horticultural and permaculture market garden of 1500m². Everything is cultivated there with deep respect for nature and their inhabitants. I have been growing my own seeds from seed to seed for years. -
