The yellow acacia (Caragana arborescens), also called the pea tree or Siberian caragana, is an ornamental shrub that is spectacular with its yellow flowers, very hardy (-40°C), resistant to difficult conditions, and adapted to poor, dry, even calcareous soils.
Like other plants of the legume family, Caragana has bacteria in the nodules of its roots that fix atmospheric nitrogen. Be careful, it is a rather narrow, very thorny upright shrub, often used to create defensive hedges.
Particularly interesting in permaculture, the pea tree helps improve soil structure, limit erosion through its root system, fix nitrogen, and attract bees, pollinating insects and birds.
As soon as the seeds are ripe, after soaking the seeds overnight in lukewarm water, sowing in a terrine under a cold frame can be undertaken. At 5cm, the young plants will need to be repotted.
Reproducible seeds harvested exclusively in the Pot'à'Jo garden, a horticultural and permaculture market garden of 1500m². Everything is cultivated there with deep respect for nature and their inhabitants. I have been growing my own seeds from seed to seed for years. -
