Sweet William (Dianthus barbatus) seeds, 0.5 grams, approximately 450 seeds

The double dwarf poet's carnation blooms for a very long time!
Also known as "ready-made bouquets" or "bearded carnations," sweet William offers numerous advantages. Their tightly packed flowers last very well in a vase, and their colors are varied and unique. Whether in flowerbeds, borders, or containers, sweet William is very easy to grow.

Perennial or biennial depending on the climate of your region:
The double dwarf sweet William (Dianthus barbatus) is a perennial plant, though in most cases it is cultivated as a biennial. In oceanic or Mediterranean climates, it will be perennial. Its flowers are edible.

This pretty plant develops beautiful, ball-shaped flower heads, like a ready-made bouquet. The mix of colors includes pink, red, purple, white, and often even two-tone. The foliage of this variety of sweet William is evergreen, and the plant does not exceed 30 cm in height. It is cold-hardy down to -10°C.

Sweet William thrives in sunny locations. It will do well with other biennial and perennial plants such as pansies, wallflowers, double daisies, aubrietas and alyssum 'Basket of Gold'.

When to sow sweet William flowers?
Sweet William seeds should be sown from April to June to flower the following year. Sow in seed trays or pots using light, good-quality potting soil. Transplant as soon as the seedlings are large enough.

The poet's carnation requires little maintenance:
Sweet William will bloom longer if you give it a flowering plant fertilizer. An organic fertilizer in the spring will also do it a world of good. As it blooms, deadhead the spent flowers. If the winter is harsh, protect your plants with straw or horticultural fleece (not plastic).

Open-pollinated seeds harvested exclusively from the Pot'à'Jo garden, a 1500m² market garden combining horticulture and permaculture. Everything is cultivated there with deep respect for nature and its inhabitants. I have been cultivating my own seeds, from seed to seed, for years.
