Ashwagandha or Indian ginseng is a woody perennial plant, about 1m/1m50. Whole, oval leaves, typical of Solanaceae. Yellow-green flowers attached to the stem. Flowering takes place between June and September. Berry fruits, initially orange then becoming red when ripe and protected by a calyx.
Native to India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, it prefers warm exposures and does not tolerate frost.
Ashwagandha seeds are sown like tomatoes, in a warm place, at around 20°C, in late February/early March. Germination can be quite long and take a month or more.
Ashwagandha should be transplanted outside after the last frosts, around May 15. This plant prefers dry soil and a sunny exposure. In cold regions, it should be grown either as an annual plant or kept in a pot and brought indoors in winter.
Reproducible seeds harvested exclusively in the Pot'à'Jo garden, a horticultural and permaculture market garden of 1500m². Everything is cultivated there with deep respect for nature and their inhabitants. I have been growing my own seeds from seed to seed for years. -
