The Mauritanian Mallow is a perennial plant that can reach up to 2 meters in height and has lobed leaves.
In medicinal use, it is soothing and very useful against constipation or heartburn. In cooking, it can be cooked like spinach, or eaten raw to decorate salads and add a velvety texture to soups.
Sowing: March-April (average temperature 12-14°C) under cover. Transplant, leaving 50 cm spacing, into deep, rich soil and mulch. Direct sowing in clusters is also possible.
Flowering period: June to September
Mallow thrives in well-drained soil and a sunny location. Leave 1 square meter between each plant to allow it to flourish fully.
You can plant the plants almost all year round except during periods of extreme cold.
Pick the mallow leaves preferably in the morning and use them in salads or like spinach (braised, in tarts).
Edible flowers can be used to decorate your dishes, young fruits can be eaten raw or cooked, or preserved in vinegar.
Open-pollinated seeds harvested exclusively from the Pot'à'Jo garden, a 1500m² market garden combining horticulture and permaculture. Everything is cultivated there with deep respect for nature and its inhabitants. I have been cultivating my own seeds, from seed to seed, for years. -
