Lemon catnip is a perennial aromatic plant, very attractive to bees and with a strong lemon scent.
Lemon catnip forms small clumps of green foliage about 20 to 30 cm in all directions and spikes of very pretty pinkish-white to mauve flowers in summer. Hardy, it is a must-have for sunny, dry gardens.
In cooking, it is used to flavor salads, sauces, fish, or in drinks.
Lemon catnip also contains an oil that repels insects and aphids.
Growing lemon catnip:
Lemon catnip thrives in full sun or partial shade, in well-drained, calcareous soil. It prefers rich, moist soil but is also quite drought-tolerant. It is a hardy plant.
Lemon catnip grows quite quickly, so it needs plenty of space in the garden: plant 50 cm apart. If your soil is poor, add organic matter, and water regularly after planting and throughout the summer. The above-ground parts die back in winter, and the plant regrows from the base in spring.
Open-pollinated seeds harvested exclusively from the Pot'à'Jo garden, a 1500m² market garden combining horticulture and permaculture. Everything is cultivated there with deep respect for nature and its inhabitants. I have been cultivating my own seeds, from seed to seed, for years. -
