Red Scotch Bonnet Pepper Seeds (Capsicum chinense) 20 seeds

The Scotch bonnet1, or Scotch pepper, also called bonda man jak in the Caribbean islands, is a variety of chili pepper named for its resemblance to a tam o' shanter2,3. It is ubiquitous in West Africa as well as the Caribbean. Like the closely related habanero pepper, this Scotch pepper has a Scoville rating of 100,000 to 350,000. For comparison, most jalapeño peppers have a Scoville rating of 2,500 to 8,000. However, non-hot varieties of Scotch bonnet called "veggie peppers," or "cachucha," are grown in some Caribbean islands.

Fruits in the shape of a wrinkled lantern, 3 to 5 cm long.
Ripens from green to red in 120 days.
    White flower.
Compact plant 60 to 90 cm high with green foliage and stems.
    Fruity Habanero type flavor.

Sow in February-March in pots of fine seed compost in a heated greenhouse (25°C). Peppers need a high temperature at the beginning of their development as well as a little humidity but not too much. Germination within 3 weeks.
Replant in May in deep, loose soil, in a warm, sunny location, sheltered from the wind, 50 cm in all directions. Hoeing, watering and mulching.
If you do not live in a warm region, growing in a greenhouse is highly recommended.

Peppers will appreciate cohabitation with other nightshades: Peruvian ground cover, Balbis nightshade, peppers, tomatoes, etc.

5 to 6 months after sowing approximately when the peppers are fully ripe.
Pick as needed or dry in the sun or oven.

Reproducible seeds harvested exclusively in the Pot'à'Jo garden, a horticultural and permaculture market garden of 1500m². Everything is cultivated there with deep respect for nature and their inhabitants. I have been growing my own seeds from seed to seed for years.
